Halloween Spooky Contest

PART ONE:

You know the rules, grade the 5 coins below and add the sum of the numeric grade and post the cumulative total (e.g., MS60 + AU50 + AU50 + EF40 = 200).

The winner will be the person who guesses closest to the correct number without going over AND has a reasonable answer to the questions in Part Two
Winner gets one of the coins shown below, (this coin will be chosen by me and at my discretion). Good luck!

and...

PART TWO:

Question 1:
We are members of the The Lincoln Cent Resource, but what is the name of the coin club which represents all variety and error collectors? You will need to know the answer to this question before you can move on to the next question.

Question 2:
The club mentioned above was formed in 1983 by the merger of these two coin clubs, what are the names of the two coin clubs?

Bonus Question 3: Guess the Grade an Variety of the last coin.

1968-S

The contest will run until October 31st; there will also be a bonus prize(s). I like to think of it as handing out candy on HALLOWEEN, except they are pennies.

Happy Halloween Everyone

My guess for part 1 is 295.

I would rather some other member win, so I will leave part 2 & 3 alone.

Thanks for adding this contest to the forum...these are very popular!

part 1 guess would be 290...

part 2 question 1 is CONECA.

part 2 question 2 are the two clubs of CONE (Collectors of Numismatic Errors) and NECA (Numismatic Error Collectors of America).

Is the bonus question optional?? Just asking...good luck to everyone else as well!

Well! How clever we all are! We all come up with a different number for the grade! But we all guess that the variety/error on the 1968-S cent is coppercoins 1DO-002 (aka CONECA's DDO-001, 1-O-II; CDDO-001)! You can tell what area we specialize in!

My Answers:

I'll suggest that the grading total is 296. A lot depends upon whether you consider the first coin to be a slider or an uncirc. Of course, grading by photos is a lot harder than grading an actual coin, especially with all the lint I see getting in front of the images.

CONECA represents us all.

CONECA formed from a merger of CONE and NECA.

This sounds so repetitive! (not an answer)

The 1968-S Lincoln is, as mentioned previously, CONECA's DDO-001, Crawford's CDDO-001, and Coppercoins' 1DO-002. It looks to grade MS63+. (Hey! Don't laugh at the plus sign! PCGS and NGC are doing it too!)

By the way, in case you were wondering why the 1963-D Lincoln was included in the batch, the coin is a specimen of the 1963/3-D DDO-001

Actually everyone of the pictured coins is a variety except one. Who knows which one?

Now I got a headache. Is it the 1909? It's hard to check for class VI doubled dies on macro shots!

I am thinking the '55 too...

I guess it could be the 1955, but I was thinking I saw extra thickness from a class VI doubled die. Of course, it's nearly impossible to tell with such little magnification!

:tinysmile_shutup_t2 If it's not too late I guess 287 I would like to answer the other questions but it would not be fair when I see others that have the correct answers before I even looked at this post. Thanks for the contest.
