The safest way to determine its make-up is weigh it . That will tel if it is Zinc or Copper.

Brad,

If memory serves me... Isn't there a pic of a Gabe's scale on The Resource?

In my humble opinion it appears to be a copper cent.
I haven't seen but a couple of nice bubble-less 82 zincs.
The dropping test is all a bunch of hooey, especially if you are tone deaf!
The only real way to tell the difference, as Brad says, is to weigh it.
Nice coin for a collection.

I can tell by looking, but the drop test does work on my glass table....even my 13 year-old daughter can tell the difference half way across the room. I quiz her all the time and she's ALWAY right.

Yes the drop test DOES work. You can make a cheap scale with a straw plit at both ends. I have one that is sitting on a tack in the center. Put a zinc on one end and a questionable at the other. Youll know if its zinc or copper.

Besides that. It does look like it has extra thickness on the letters. Can you get a better pic of LIBERTY?
