Here is a web site which explains the Blakesley effect, from Ken Potter.

Thanks guys. What is the Blakesley effect?

It is not on all clips, but when it is seen it is a key indicator that the clip is a genuine mint error and not done outside of the mint (I.E. garage junk)

Blakesley effect is named after the person. On a genuine clip, the location of the clip at it's opposite will show weakness to the design. On your reverse notice the weakness at the UNUM which is directly opposite of the clip location.
