Bob and I went shark tooth hunting at Manasota Beach this morning - started around 7am and finished around 10:30am - about 3-ish hours. We found all of the teeth in the photo.

CONTEST - Guess which one of us found the most teeth, and how many teeth we found total (both of us in one pile). The photo shows all of them.

PRIZE - closest to the actual number of teeth we found together wins a baggie containing a few dozen of the teeth we found today. A piece of the **bounty**. Good luck!

RULES - one guess per person, contest ends tomorrow morning (Monday) at 8am Eastern.

***WINNER ANNOUNCED***

Well, I hate to blow it for those who think Bob was on his game, but it takes a few minutes of looking to learn your way out there. Since I've done it a number of times, I knew what I was looking for, and Bob had to bring himself into it.

I found a total of 256 teeth to Bob's 153. Total number of teeth found, 409.

wapa is our winner by guessing that I would win with a total of 401 teeth. Pretty accurate!

Congratulations.

PM your address and I will send your prize!

Congrats wapa!

How on earth do you find so many Chuck? When we go to the beach, my uncle and cousin and I spend a few hours, and we never find any!

It's only this one beach. The ground is littered with the teeth. Ten miles north and ten miles south the numbers go down a lot. Offshore from the beach where we found these divers go down and pull buckets worth of teeth. It's the one hottest hot spot in the US for sharks teeth, and I happen to live a 40 minute drive from that spot.

We have a river that empties into the gulf not far from this beach, and the river is littered with teeth. Nearly half of the river bed is bones, fossils, teeth, stuff from prehistory. We are likely to go on that river this coming weekend with a canoe, shovels, and shaker screens to see what we can find.

So what's the biggest tooth you've found? In North Carolina, I once found a megalodon/Great White tooth 2.5in long.

We never find teeth all that large out there on the beach, just a lot of them.

The Peace River is the place for the larger teeth around here, but unfortunately right now it is at flood stage, so there's no chance of finding anything there at the moment. We will probably have a canoe expedition there in February. That's where the 5-7" teeth come from.

We did another shark tooth hunt in a small creek this past weekend, Came home with another few hundred teeth in better condition than those found at the beaches. We did get a couple pieces of larger megalodon teeth. I just gave the whole bunch of them to my grand kids. Better than chocolate to them. They were very excited.

How big were these megalodon teeth?. They can go for thousands of dollars if they are big in nice shape
