That is a nice clash.
In your 5th image, what is the circular design under your arrow in bay#1?
If I didn't know better it almost looks like an upside down R. Similar to shape and location to the R in LIBERTY (or just PSD?).
And Happy Thanksgiving to you.
Happy Thanksgiving Dan! Hope you and yours have had an enjoyable holiday!
Very nice die clash! It's off a tad, usually the edge of the back of Lincoln's head is in line with the left side of the planter and yours is lined up with the right side of the planter. It also looks like there was some rotation. I can't really make out the TY of Liberty in the first two bays but there's something there. That circular thing is interesting but it doesn't match anything from the design that would be from a clash... like you said it's some kind of unknown thing.
I ate to much ham and turkey sure was good, and thank you. The die clash is very pronounced almost like sharp cuts that you would see with a knife. Unusual looking, I'm not sure what the marks in the first bay were made with looks like some sort of a round punch or something. As always thank you for looking and your comments.............Dan
Sounds like a perfect Thanksgiving... eat too much and have to take a nap :)
It is a really strong clash Dan, maybe the obverse die was changed out since you're not seeing anything there. It looks like the reverse doesn't have any die abrasion, do you see any?
Thanks for the follow up. Excellent image. I see now that it is incuse (recessed).
The lines (polish or flow) along the transition edge from the raised surface of the column to the bay seem to be obscuring the left side of the circle leading me to think the circle is not PSD.
Also, there is another line, above the circle and parallel to the area you have marked as "clash mark".
I may be reaching again, I'm wondering if these are all related somehow. Interesting because this area just isn't part of a "normal" clash.
Bay 1 & 4 are not normal bays for a clash and the profile in bay 4 looks more like the chin profile which is normally in bay #9.
It will be interesting to hear what others see/say.
Somehow I missed Viv's posts after the closeup image of the circle.
The raised part in bay#4 doesn't look like collar/back of head profile. Hope someone does an overlay to see how it all lines up.
Happy Thanksgiving Dan!! Your second pic made me laugh!! Very nice clash indeed!! As Cliff pointed out, what's goin on in bay one looks to be a clash. I have to disagree about the back of the head in bay 4 though. I'm pretty sure that is what you have in bay 4 and what's going on in bay 1 is the "R" from LIBERTY. The collar/back of head line up with where the "R" should be. It is further west that we usually see. It looks similar to this guy. Link (http://www.maddieclashes.com/cclti-1c-1999-01/)
No die abrasions that I can see..............Dan
The way the anomaly in bay one looks, I don't think it is a clash mark as it is indented where as it should be raised to be a clash mark. Need to do an overly to see what lines up, it does give us something to talk about, and thank you for looking and your thoughts. ...............Dan
