1943S-1DR-002 - Plated, weak strike, or Struck thru grease?

I feel fairly confident this coin is not plated but I'd really appreciate your opinions just to be sure.
I've spilled alotta blood purchasing these with bad pics on eBay over the years but this one's
different. For starters, I don't see the extraordinary "peeling' effect that plated/re-plated steel cents
usually exhibit around the devices and particularly around the rims. Secondly, the color is reasonably
consistent and even where re-plated coins are anything but. The main thing that gives me pause is the
lack of luster. I shot these pics with zero diffusion under Jansjo lights with their lens caps off. My camera
exposure and brightness settings were set higher than normal and I still had to brighten these pics a bit
in post edit to show everything. I did not, however, strengthen these pics at all. Some of the pics seem
out of focus but they're not. It's either the strike or the plating. My guess is grease and/or weakly struck.

What does the edge look like? Any rusty streaks there?

Not sure about the plating. Is it as textured as it appears in the pictures? But it is a DDR.

No streaks. Some chipping but no streaks.

The thing about 43 cents is you can erase them and since they are steel and tough they don't get light salmon colored.

My guess is that this one may not be plated but it might be polished with an eraser.

They look pretty good if you erase them but look flat with less flow lines showing. :)

Not quite. These thumbnails came out a bit grainer and multicolored when I resized the pics to fit here. Actual fields are smooth and color is even.

That makes total sense to me. Funny you mention this. I was just pondering what soap and water would do to these. Eraser? Hehe. I guess an eraser would do to steel what nose grease does to copper- fade and evade.

They look pretty good after erasing, try one, it takes the white stuff off and looks good but flat. :)

The blanks were punched out after plating was done. They tend to have a light amount of thin rust colored lines on the edge of the coins since they have no plating on them.

And chips probably indicate there is plating chipping off that shouldn't be there.
