So in my Coin Roll Hunting I found a 2017 P with post mint damage. This damage I call copper plating failure. The copper plating can be seen without magnification. It looks like dried scales on the obverse. The reverse is unremarkable. Any ideas on how this PMD occurred?

I'm not sure if it's the plating. I'm thinking a chemical agent has dried on it and left that design. Looks like a soak in acetone is in order.
Just plain acetone from Home Depot?

I don't know if dry ice would do it quick enough or a drop of liquid nitrogen? The two different metals (copper and zinc) would expand and contract differently in extreme conditions.
In any case, acetone or whatever might get it off, that'll show that it's something on the surface. If it stays then something messed up the plating but in either case it's post strike damage.

Looks to me like some one scraped a bunch of gunk off the coin that or stained... Franks fractals were cool!!!
