Being there are so few 1979 varieties (I only see one RPM listed, and no doubled dies), I figured I would post this NON-variety 1979-D with the BROKEN mintmark punch as it look so much like a tilted or rotated RPM. It gets everyone at least once. I am not certain when the punch broke, but most 1979-Ds show it.
When I saw the year in this post I was curious as to what variety I had been missing out on looking at...thank goodness the 1979s cast into the copper pile are there for the "non-variety" coins they are!
Thanks for the post on what not to look for Jason!

I had ignored the '79-D's for years, until one accidently slipped into my "to be checked pile." This was the very first one I had ever scoped and it turned out to be 1979D-1MM-001. Total fluke! I have been checking them for two years straight since then and have only found two more. For those of you that skip this date, rest assured, you aren't missing much IMHO.
