beyond great info... I noticed a transitional mint mark an earlier year using the next years mint mark style
have you come across any transitional mint marks in your research
Brian Ribar or BVC had found this one
1962D Lincoln cent MMS-007.1 Stage A, Mint Mark style of 1963.

no I have not looked for any transitional mint marks
working on more quarters but I may look into the 1962 D mint marks....
My exhibit is about the dies
The mint mark is a punch used on a die... but the die is the same just the punch is different.
My exhibit is bigger now with some thing not listed here...
1982 nickels
1964 dimes
the dollar section is now all coins,
1971 D, 1972 P, and 1979 P dollars

Somewhere in the 80's or 90's the nickel die seems to have changed. Not the same change as the late nickels that have laser sharp details making it almost hard to find an example without steps.
When did the changes happen in the earlier nickels?
I read somewhere about changes from high to low relief then another snippet about the end of a series where it remains unknown if any coins were minted that had steps, I'm thinking that was 70's-ish while my eyes are still pretty certain significant changes also took place late 80's or early 90's.
Nickel information isn't easy to find and the redirect from Wexler's site isn't too a site chock full of similar presentations and information.
At least that was my skimming thru kinda precursory impression that may have resulted in my overlooking or missing lots.
