    Conservation of album damaged 1925-S.

Bought this coin for cheap on Ebay. Seller states "dark spots" are due to poor album quality. My questions are:

    1. It appears to me the album caused the white/golden hazy coloration. Not the dark spots. Right or wrong?

    2. Is this PVC damage?

    3. Is there any treatment for it?

    Thanks, Tracy

Hey ! That's my official title, you can't have it

But...the only thing I would try is BadThad's polarity ladder as outlined in the Conservation forum....I doubt it will do much, but it's worth a shot and won't harm your coin any worse than it already is.

It does look like pvc damage, but I have to tell you, I have serious doubts about that coin even being genuine.

It looks like it may have been stripped at some time, washed out and brassy and looks like some wear on the beard and other details.

Some of the fakes out there lately have a similar look, they seem to have a lusterless washed out look and lack some detail then some miss-handling probably done to hide the fake look.

Nice 25S! These are very tough to find with any red and this one looks mostly red. Always start with the polarity ladder!

I believe it to genuine. These and the 24S are probably with worst made issues ever.

The coin still appears to have a good bit of luster. I bought this coin because the strike looked really good for the price, especially the reverse. Parts of the obverse appear either weakly struck or struck thru grease perhaps. Didn't suspect a fake because of sellers honesty in description and the cheap price.I'm gonna try the process you guys recommended and see what happens. Thanks a bunch once again guys.
