    Unanswered: 2005 D 1C Surface Detail

Hi, This LC has an unusually shiny surface. Also, Lincoln's head is highly detailed. What do you think? Thanks for looking!

Hmmm. I see what you mean about shiny and highly detailed.
I'm wondering if it could actually be a plating issue (blisters?) with the detail.
If you look on his shoulder above the VDB there appears to be two diagonal blisters, as well as a big one on his cheek.
Lets see what the pros have to say.

That color does not look natural/normal. It may be re- plated. The strike is what you would expect from a 2005 Lincoln cent. A newer die would strike some very detailed cents.

Just curious when you say re-plated do you mean post mint?

Yes...Post mint for sure. Some folks do science experiments with cents and copper is one of the easiest metals to plate over. Of course, this is just a guess as I am basing my analysis on your photos. Can you post a pic of it next to another 2005D cent?

Cool looking... Looks like from a very EDS... Like Bob said it looks to be replated... Some one did an excellent job on the replate too... I can not see the build up of excess metal in the devices like what shows up on replated 43 LCs!!!
