1962 D not DD not DDD so what is it?

The RPM occurred when the mint worker was sitting there hitting the MM punch with a hammer into the working die and for whatever reason, such as eating a starburst and wondering how they get all that flavor in them , the worker double/triple taps the punch or moves it slightly causing more than one MM to show... I thought it was when they had "bring your kid to work day" at the mint and the worker handed the hammer to junior and said "give it a whack or two and try to get it near the date".
