Hi all, I have a 1940 S Lincoln with a DDO, RPD, and Possible S/S/S RPM on the same coin. I cannot positively identify it with the Obverse Die Markers listed on Wexler & CONECA. However, the reverse has a possible Stage D: Die marker (see Photo of Right
Wheat Leaf). Any help with this one is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
jbul, you have done a great job here with your photos, labeling and research. But I am sorry, I agree with enamel, what you are seeing is MD.
I have compared your coin to Variety Vista's 1940-S DDO-001 which I think is the one you are comparing to the Stage D die marker. Even though the marker might look like a match, you must see the doubling first in order to confirm a variety. You are on the right track though so don't give up! These coins with MD mess with all of us!
Great photos and a beautifully toned coin!! Don't let the MD wear you down, just keep searching and it will click. The next thing you know, you will be recognizing and finding varieties!
If you are comparing to Variety Vista's 1940-S DDO-001, notice how the Variety Vista 1940-S RPM-001, DDO-001 RPM is to the northeast of the MM and what you are seeing is to the north? I may be wrong thinking you are using this Variety Vista DDO/RPM for comparison, if so, please tell me. But, I was trying to find your comparison to help out.
Thanks to everyone for your super fast responses. Appreciate the explanations. Perhaps you could add examples of extreme MDD's to your educational threads for future ref.

That would be very helpful jbul! We do need to add some more photos of extreme MD to our glossary! Thank you for the advice!
Nice images.
Just curious if you collect Indian Head cents?
(RPD's are found in that series as well as others. Usually they are found in series produced before 1900, I think.)
