Starting question: 1973 D weird MM?
Hey, pretty new to the forum. Well, I've actually been here only a few minutes. I've been collecting coins of various bits and pieces for a while now- a few years at least, but only just now got around to checking the stuff I collected.
To start off, earlier today I found a weird 1973-D with a D that seemed unusually tiny. I checked it against another I had and confirmed it. I couldn't find any mention of it anywhere, so I'm curious what the situation with this is? Is it particularly unusual or just some run-of-the-mill mistake?

Woops, I'm dumb. I meant that the D was unusually far from the '1973'. Edited!

Welcome aboard! Yepper, it looks normal to me also.

Up through 1989 the mint marks were hand punched into the dies and could be literally anywhere. Not unusual.

Welcome to the LCF... Nice pics for a first posting... Normal for the hand punched MMs... The MMs were hand punched thru 1989 and the MMs would be all over the place in that SE section of the coin... Here is a link the will show the different MM styles used on the Lincoln cent http://varietyvista.com/01b%20LC%20D...k%20Styles.htm This should help a bit!!!

Welcome to the LCF aperson1! Very nice photos! How do you like imgur? I've heard some good things about it and thought it would be a good photo hosting site to try. Are you able to catalog your photos in one place? Is it free?
Have fun going through your collection! Folks here enjoying helping each other out so jump on in! One site that I keep open on my laptop the entire time I am searching is coppercoins. Coppercoins has a great search engine where you can type in the year and mint mark and see great photos of doubled die varieties! Here is the link
