Broadstrike and shadow in front of Abe's face

This 1999 cent has a clear broadstrike. The 1969 S is for size comparison. There is a shadow in front of Lincoln's hair to his chin. Common in broadstrikes? What is this and does it significantly add to the interest of this coin?

    Welcome to the forum.
    Nice coin.
The images are a little hard to tell but I'm thinking it is similar to struck through grease.
Just curious what the reverse looks like and what is the diameter?

Interesting how there is quite a lot of space between the bust and rim.

    Nice coin.

The shadow is there because as it grew in diameter because it wasn't confined by the collar when it was struck so the plating stretched and got thin and lets some zinc show through.

That is common on zincolns if they're out of collar or broadstrikes or off center to have some zinc showing through.

It's almost expected on ones that are really deformed. I'd look at it as "expected" but not a premium because it's more likely to get corrosion where any zinc is showing so I'd prefer a really deformed one with no zinc showing but that's not usually the case since the plating is thin and deforming tends to rip it through.

Just adding, did you check it for being a wide AM?
Strangely, I've seen several wide AMs for sale with broadstrikes so they do exist.

Added, nevermind, now I see your reverse and it's not a wide AM.

Nice looking uncentered broadstrike, Congrats on the find! Here's a link to a similar 1999 on error-ref.com http://www.error-ref.com/?s=uncentered+broadstrike

I think yours looks better without all the zinc showing

Don't think it could fit in a roll.
It is probably close to a nickel in size judging by the distance between the devices and rim.

I still have a hard time navigating on this site and keeping my password up to date, so I was delayed in replying. I bought this coin in a small lot with an odd assortment of coins a few years back, but never looked at it very closely. There was a world coin in the lot that I really wanted. I'll keep this one! Thanks for all the replies.
