PMD explained to a civilian
Feel free to share this, but please attribute it to a “Salty Coastie Senior Chief”.
That is Post Marine Damage sir...some Marine was bored on mid-watch and started chucking pennies at his buddies in the guard shack 100 feet up the gravel path. The next morning when the armored personnel vehicles passed by this penny got stuck in the tread. Later when the APV parked at the C Store the penny fell out. Some Marine brat was waiting outside the C store and found it on the road. Every Friday that brat found a penny outside the C store. In a couple of months the kid had enough pennies for that hard piece of pink gum. He tried chewing the gum and got pissed off. He then smashed the gum between two pennies. He then chucked those two stuck pennies 100 feet down the road towards the guard shack where his dad was on watch. The next time you find two pennies stuck together with gum, thank a service member for your freedom to pick up those stuck pennies and throw them in the water because you don’t need them to feed your family.
