    I have seen those same lines on the E on the reverse but can not remember where. I wonder what causes those?

    The reverse E of cent, where the center horizontal meets the vertical.
    It's like 3 gouges together. I've seen a similar pattern of grouped gouges like that in different areas on other cents.

    (I was looking for lines, literally on the E.)
