    1952-D Washington FS-101

This is by far my most valuable cherrypick to date. It is also my most improbable pick (if I didn't just complete it I would think it was impossible). I knew this die existed, but for some reason it wasn't on my radar as to its rarity and value. I have been casually searching the 1952-D quarters listed on eBay, but for an example of of the "giant D" (MMS-004) variety. http://varietyvista.com/09b%20WQ%20V...52DMMS0041.htm

99% of the time, when I see a listing by this seller, I don't even bother to zoom up on the coin to look for a possible variety. It's the same scenario as when I run into a listing by Chuck from Coppercoins, or if I saw a "normal" coin listed by one of you guys. What are the chances I am going to out pick a pro picker?

Well in this one powerball winning instant, that is exactly what happened. Here is the listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1952-D-Most...edirect=mobile

I actually thought I had lost the coin. It had just been listed when I saw it. For some odd reason, even knowing the seller, I zoomed up and saw the doubling. I thought it was a fairly nice doubled die so I submitted a best offer instead of hitting BIN. I researched the variety and thought, "Oh crap! I better go back and BIN!" When I went back and hit it, I got a message that said the coin was no longer available. I almost punched myself for being so cheap. I was only saving $3! I then noticed the little red 1 in my cart. The offer was accepted!

    NGC has graded 1 @ MS64. PCGS has graded 6 at MS64 with the latest sale in February 2018 @ $840. http://www.pcgscoinfacts.com/Coin/Detail/145818
This coin looks to me like it has less bag marks than the coin in the Heritage sale.

This may be the first coin that I really need to send in for grading.

I'm sorry this was long, but with no family or friends that are collectors, you guys are all I have to tell the whole crazy story. Thanks for listening and looking!

Super congratulations on that pick Jay.

(and most of us here resemble that remark about sharing with our online LCF family because not many have family members who can appreciate a nice pick like this.)

With stuff like that I always wonder if it was a case of at some point they knew what it was but it got mixed in with other stuff and when selling it got in the bunch or if they have a helper and the helper messed up when listing it and sold it as normal.

Excellent pick... By the looks of it you may have a chance at a 64??? Yours appears to have much less in the way of nicks and dings compared to the HA listing especially on the rims... The HA listing has all kinds of nicks on both sides... Your link to ebay went to 53D quarters??? Is yours the MMS 004.1 http://varietyvista.com/09b%20WQ%20V...52DMMS0041.htm or 004.2 http://varietyvista.com/09b%20WQ%20V...52DMMS0042.htm ??? The distance of your MM from the stems looks like the 004.2 but I can not tell for sure!!!

(A.K.A. Elmer Fudd) Be verwy verwy quiet... I'm hunting coins!!! Good Hunting!!!
