1970 S small or large?

It's just a crusty ole roll find but I'd still like to know. I checked a few sites and still don't know what I have. I know there is damage to the date but if you can, let me know what you think.

Thank you George!! I thought so but really was not sure. The PMD to the zero pushed it down and made me second guess it. Something I did not think about until I had posted it, I marked up the distance from the top of the mm in conjunction with the 9 because of a site I checked out and showed that. What good would that do with a hand punched mm?

Most of them are pretty easy like this one, look at the inside curl of the 9. It is clearly blunt (squared off end) so it has to be a LD.

The end of the curl is pointed on the SD, never blunt and points a different direction..

The only times that this does not clearly tell you which it is would be ones with MD or something that messes up the blunt end and makes it unclear to tell then you need to look at everything else.

So use that flow:

If blunt, done, it's LD.

If pointed or unclear look at the everything else: (crease in 7 (LD), longer thin 7 (LD), shorter chunky 7 (SD), shape of 9 and direction the curl points more down (LD) more back (SD), weak liberty (SD), sort of level date (SD), more egg shaped 0 with bulge on top LD, smaller more round 0 (SD).

The most unreliable thing to look at is drawing a line, everyone draws it different, even the SD isn't really level so going only by the "being level" is not reliable.

The ones that get tricky are ones with MD!

I think the 70 and 60 LD/SD are harder than the 82s... At least with the 82s the 2 is actually a totally different font in its shape... Here is a link to the LCR that helps me out a lot http://www.lincolncentresource.com/s...malldates.html Oh by the way - I'm with the others on LD!!!
