    Peripheral Die Expansion

    Additional Information
    Date: 1982

Part of me says this is a dryer coin but the other part tells me it's something else. All opinions appreciated. Thank you

I do not think this is a dryer coin. I am thinking it is some sort of corrosive liquid and severe die deterioration. This one is pretty interesting.

This is interesting looking! Bob knows best! I can see where die deterioration and a corrosive substance would be the culprit. Maybe the coin didn't stay in the corrosive substance very long, therefore it doesn't look as badly damaged as most acid jobs we see.

Corrosive substance didn't occur to me but that would explain the "mushiness". I believe you all have nailed it. Thanks for your help.
