Not to be a spoiler but what about the possibility of feeder finger die scrapes between the shield and N of UNITED.
(Straight parallel lines and on the reverse! Direction, West southwest to North northeast, seems to be off "normal" though.)
Could be feeder finger scrapes, but I'm seeing something kind of round or curved in between the two lines, in the big space.

I never even thought of feeder fingers Cliff. We'll see if I can get some better pics to show all the areas in question.
I tried the camera with loupe attached and this was as good as I could do. It looks like it is nothing more than abrasions and maybe a tiny clash remnant. The part on the shield looks to be damage as Viv said and I couldn't get a good pick of the area above OF.
Even better pics Jon... Looks like PSD on the shield and die damage in the field... Still have a nice, heavily abraded, obv clash... Thanks for the follow up!!!
Jim
(A.K.A. Elmer Fudd) Be verwy verwy quiet... I'm hunting coins!!! Good Hunting!!!
Your "die 2" is very interesting to me. Would you mind sending me one for a look-see?
I had been looking for this thread for a couple of days, after a thread Rowdy started reminded me of it. Do you recall what conclusions you came up with on this guy?

Lol, I don't even remember looking at it. For all I know, it may still be in the envelope! I look around. Sorry!

Not a biggie, I had forgotten about it too, until I pulled up this post. I think you were looking at highly abraded clashed coins at the time. Another shiny shell.

Or maybe I wanted to study the planchet striations.
