I pulled this 89P from pocket change and can not figure out if it is some sort of MD or a possible re-engraved die??? I used blue arrows to point out the areas of concern and on the east end I included green arrows to point out the circ wear as it obscures the anomaly... The west end of the base shows the areas best including the bushes... Raised areas along the edges and sunken in around the anomalies... I checked for gas bubbles and I also do not see any signs that there is any collapse from corrosion under the plating... On the east end the same areas are affected but worn down fairly good and are more difficult to see... The problem I see with MD as a cause is that the die would have had to move to the SE on the west end and to the SW on the east end at the same time??? Any and all comments are welcome... If any pics from different angles are needed let me know... Thanks ya'll!!!

Very cool looking Jim and nice pics!! I know I've had MD on both sides of the same devise before but I agree, this looks different. You may be right, it does kind of look like re-engraving. I look forward to seeing what folks say.

Definitely not re-engraving Jim. I am subscribing to the MD theory though. I am sure you have seen coins with more than one episode of MD. We used to call it 'chatter' because there were more than one 'ledge'. I think what you have is pretty unique but I think it still is explainable as strike damage.

Thanks for chiming in Bob... You jogged the old memory... I do remember a few years back I had a similar MD coin, a 85 or 86, and if I remember correctly it was on the obv and involved almost all devices???

Sorry, it took me awhile to find them and not the greatest pics but you'll get the idea.

Cool Jon... Thanks for the follow up... Excellent example of the MD... Is the rev/obv the same coin??? You have one weird coin tho - I thought there were 11 bays and 12 columns... Yours has 4 bays and 4 1/2 columns not to mention Abe is all distorted

They are inflation cents, they don't go as far anymore!! The reverse coin is an 84P.
