    Answered: 1950 P "IIB"??

Found this 1950 P. It looks like and "IIB" error. However, the coin is old and badly beat up, so there is a small chance it is PSD. There is also what looks like a Die Chip on top of the 9 in the date; but again it could also be PSD.
I would like to here your thoughts on this one before submitting it to JC for listing...
    Thanks
    Adrian

  2. "I think this one was in a metal bezel, one of those tin things that says something like "lucky penny" with and ad.
    Someone pried it out.

Now you see an outer area of the rim that's flattened then just inside of that you see a raised area (on the obv) which is where the opening of the holder was.

Like this coin in this thread but on that one it shows best on the rev, yours shows best on the obv.

It might be but you are right about it being beat up.
A dip in acetone might make it more visible.

Here is the same coin after the acetone bath.
I believe some of the anomaly is still there; but it's small though. Do you think it's PSD?
Included are also 2 pics of the supposed to be "die chip" on top of the 9 on the date after the acetone's treatment. PSD also?
    Thanks

Nice follow up pics Adrian! The acetone helped! Sorry but I don't think you have a IIB It looks more like some stubborn gunk has settled there and also between the B and E. Above the 9 looks more like PSD now that it's cleaned up.

Viv you were right!!! (again!!!). Since I couldn't tell for certain, neither was Peterpockets55 and you said it was the gunk, I applied a second bath with acetone (first pic). Still some gunk remained, so I went to find out for sure and rubbed the area with the tip of a toothpick. The problem disappeared as can be seen in the second picture, so no IIB.
I also think the supposed to be "die chip" above the 9 in the date is PSD.
    Thank you.
    Adrian

Thank you Adrian for selecting my answer! Very good brainstorming and coin conservation/cleaning on your part! Sometimes you do have to be a little aggressive on that stubborn gunk that has been there for a long time! Nice job!

Well done Adrian on the follow through.
Sorry it didn't turn out the way you would have preferred.
