THIS 1909-S WAS PICKED OFF E-BAY LAST WEEK JUST GOT A CHANCE FOR A CLOSER LOOK @ THE S.SEEMS TO BE SOME ACTIVITY AROUND THE S.COIN HAS SOME MARKERS ON RT WHEAT STEM WITH A DIE CRACK @ THE BOTTOM OF LAST S IN STATES GOING SE TO RIM LIKE 1909-S 1MM-002. VV ALSO HAS THIS DIE CRACK AS A MARKER.COIN HAS OTHER MARKERS ON OBV.
I'm thinking it was whizzed then toned.
It has the look of that it was whizzed, really shiny then they used Dellers Darkener or something like that to help it tone.
Very nice pick Ken! I'm not sure about the RPM either. I compared to all of the listings and especially the 002, and the different stages on VV. Let's see what the Wheat RPM guru's say.
I am no guru but the MM location and the RPM looks fairly good??? Can you get a better pic of the MM... The one you have appears hazy to me and is difficult to match up the marks??? If it is 002 yours should be later stage then VVs D http://varietyvista.com/02a%20LC%20R...909SRPM002.htm since the rev crack on yours starts at the S of STATES and goes to the rim... That crack 1st appears on Stage D as a lite crack from the east stalk to the rim... A better pic of that area would also help!!!

I agree with Ed. On a side note, I seem to recall that this is the most common of all of the 1909 S dies, so it always bugged me a little that it should command a premium over the others.

Thanks for the follow up pics... I appreciate it... I think you have it just not 100% sure??? The rev crack looks good from the stalk to the rim... Yours is more developed as it appears to be a later Stage than VVs D http://varietyvista.com/02a%20LC%20R...909SRPM002.htm The crack also has some circ wear... The MM location looks good as do the remnants of what appears to be the secondary MM... An overlay would help, to make sure, if you would like me to make one??? On the SW outer edge of the upper loop there appears to be some abrasions that are similar to VVs Stage D??? Also off the SE corner of the upper serif is an abrasion that appears to match with VV and CCs http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/d...&die_state=mds samples??? Your abrasions are liter than VV or CC as your coin looks to be a much later die stage!!!
