    Answered: Cud errors?

Found this nice 2008 in great shape for circulation and I think all these blobs on the pillars and stairs are cud errors? Not sure what do yall think? Attachment 134051

A cud needs to be a chipped off part of the die that connects to the rim/edge. Think of it like you have a big mallet shaped iron hammer with a flat face. (represents the die) You keep beating it on another big hunk of metal, eventually one edge chips away (like caveman chipping a stone tool). That's like a cud on a die, it can be fully gone or only displaced but it needs to be at the edge of the die.

When you see little lumps not connected to the edge/rim or even filled letters or between letters of LIBERTY those are die chips or little cracks turning into chips or on zinc cents when you see a bunch of little blobs those are probably gas bubbles under the copper plating.

I agree with Ed and Viv.

Glad you are having fun searching Lincolns! There's a whole lot of great knowledge around here too! You must be a tad Southern, that's cool! I hear "ya'll" around here all the time where I live, but rarely do you see someone type it

Cool... Pic is a little blurry but it looks like Abe had some beans for dinner... Lots of gas bubbles In mid 1982 the mint switch from a solid planchet for the lincoln cent to a copper plated zinc core... There were 2 styles of dates for that year - Large Date (LD) and Small Date (SD)... Here is a link to some more info http://www.lincolncentresource.com/smalldates/1982.html Hope that helps a little!!!

(A.K.A. Elmer Fudd) Be verwy verwy quiet... I'm hunting coins!!! Good Hunting!!!
