I pulled this 1957D tonight and its in pretty good shape. Im wondering why all the old 60's shiny ones I find all have nice big bold dates and lettering? Maybe they just havent circulated much or maybe they are proofs that got in circulation... How could u tell if they were proofs back then they werent made in the S mint, I dont think? Inquiring mind, wants to know lol

Nice coin from a roll!! I'll let the big dawgs tell you about the proofs in the 60's, I do know there are some that were made in Philidelphia too. There are also differences in the 60's as far as the size of the letters and date. The 68 series was VERY chunky!

I'm not following, you posted a 57, not sure what that has to do with the 60's but ok. You are right about the die changing in 69 though, it's totally different.

To me the bold mushy obverses on the 59-68 always make me think they're wheat cents when I dump rolls. I always flip them over hoping to see wheat on the back.

Wexler has some good info on how dies are made http://doubleddie.com/58201.html That mey help you in your search of knowledge... There is also a lot of info on the forum under For the Lincoln Cent Beginner http://www.lincolncentforum.com/foru...-Cent-Beginner There is even more info out there... Just be careful of the stuff on you tube... There has been a lot of mis leading and incorrect info posted which can really confuse beginning searchers... Once you learn more about how the dies are made and coins are stuck things will start to click... Hope that helps you a little!!!
