    1992 quarter missing mint mark

I can’t remember if I posted this a while ago. But, I am wondering if this is maybe a clogged die. Has anyone seen anything like this? Any guesses as to whether I should send it in for examination or not? I dug around on the web for about 30 minutes and found nothing. We'll see what others have to offer up but I don't see anything else on the coin that would point towards a grease filled die. I personally would send it in! Cool find Sheila!!

The I is partly missing, no reason to think the I and D didn't clog.

It can also be that it got sheared by a machine, in either case the coin is beat up so any traces might be hidden.

If there was a known missing mintmark you'd think it would be known and if it was the only one or nobody found the others, still you'd need a better condition example to prove it was that way when minted.

Lets say it was filled, it's not like it's value is like a 22-P cent and more rare so worth more.
It's the opposite, the 22-P cent made it like a P mint that didn't exist. Plus there were enough of them to make a market so they put a spot for it in folders yet not enough of them to make it cheap and common. If there was just one it wouldn't be valued so much because there would be no market for them, since it was really filled/polished and a bunch made helped it have a market.

So assume it's "probably" a filled die and assume that it's not from damage, what's the value? Hard to say, someone might think it's cool if you put it on ebay, that is the only way to value it.

I doubt a TPG would say it was made with no mintmark without other examples in high grade. If they said it was filled that doesn't make it worth much so I wouldn't spend a grading fee to find out.

It is neat, I'd either keep it or sell it and see what people pay

Thank you for all the information! That helps a lot. I have just held onto it for a collection coin for the last couple years. It is very interesting though. I think I will just keep it in my collection.
