30,000 Lincoln's at cost
(Hopefully this is in the correct category.)
I've been stopping periodically (+-6 times) at my local coin shop for about 8 months looking for rolls of BU wheats. They have some but they are in a jumble since the shelf they were stored on collapsed at the beginning of the year. Lincolns are not a big money maker for them so it was not a big priority to get them organized with all the shows and bigger ticket items needing attention.
Yesterday the owner went out of his way to locate some in the jumble ('48, '49 & '53-s, no varieties but some nice green fluorescent toners in the group). As I was shooting the bull with them I noticed some canvas and plastic bags (7?) on the floor filled with Lincoln's, but no wheats. They only search Lincoln's they get from collectors for wheats and "big" varieties. Turns out those are .... correction .... were destined to go to the bank!!!!
Bottom line is I'm taking him up on his offer to buy them at cost. If anyone here is interested in any, PM me and they will be on their way to you for 1c each plus shipping.
HH, Cliff

Well I took the plunge and got the searched Lincoln's today from my local coin shop.
(I know this is just a one week appetizer for some of you, but for me it's probably a years supply )
5 bags = 25,000 LC Three canvas and two plastic bank bags
Reeeeealy nice mix.
(Couldn't wait and looked at 25 cents in the parking lot!! )
I took a microscopic and random 25 coin sample from the middle of one bag (29.5 lbs).
Wheats= 4 (16%) 1926p VF- Details, 1947d MS R/B Details, 1953d MS Bn Details , 1950s EF BN Details
Copper Memorials- 7 (30%)
Zinc Memorials- 9 (28%)
Zinc Shields- 4 (16%)
Foreign- 1 (.04%) Canadian copper 1967
Hope they keep to these percentages, plus some varieties!
Here's the odd part. (Dealer said he counted them by machine and I weighed them on a bath scale)
Plastic bags- 29.5 lbs, 30.5 lbs
Canvas bags- 26lbs, 29.5 lbs, 30 lbs.
I would have expected them to be more consistent on the weight for each bag.
Also:
First canvas bag-
1)26 pounds x 453.59 grams/pound = ..................... 11,793 +- grams
11,793 / 2.5 grams (weight of zinc cent) = .............. 4717 zinc cents (Not 5000)
2)5000 zinc cents x 2.5 grams = .............................. 12,500 grams
12,500 grams / 453.59 grams = .............................. 27.56 pounds. (if all were zinc)
3)5000 copper cents x 3.1 grams = .............................. 15,500 grams
15,500 grams / 453.59 grams = ............................... 34.17 pounds (if all were copper with no wear)
(Hope I don't put people to sleep with these numbers.)

Very nice numbers so far in that first 25! That is so cool Cliff! You know they had to miss some good stuff in those bags!

Not too bad of a random lot... Don't forget the +/- 0.113 grams per coin... 2.5 grams range is 2.387 to 2.613 and 3.11 grams range is 2.997 to 3.223... 2.5 gram range would be - 2.387 x 5000 LCs = 11,935 to 2.613 x 5000 coins = 13,065 and for 3.11 grams range 2.997 x 5000 coins = 14,985 to 3.223 x 5000 coins = 16,115... Based on your random sample percentages you could extrapolate a range of frankenzincs and solids as well as non LCs... Time for the nogg

Thanks to all of the members that wanted to comment but are not allowed.
(Evidently Moderators and OP only can post). I made a quick copy and pasted to the "Wassup" thread and will update some info to a new thread since there were "Only 25,000".
Thanks for the good wishes.
