Little help please!! 1978 P Light clip? In out of Collar? MAD?
When I first looked at this one I just thought it was a typical MAD with PSD but then I noticed a second rim turned inward just south of "IN", I looked closer and it looked out of round. I looked through all the collar Errors and the best fit that I could tell was Multiple strikes in/out of collar. This would also appear to be my first clip, be it ever so slight...
This is interesting looking Jon... but I'm lost too! Can you get a close up of the 7th column for us? Geez... I dunno.. let me look at this one for awhile, it's over my head!

The column was just something I noticed after I had posted from the full coin pic but it just turned out to be PSD. What's going on with the obverse rim is what I was not sure of though.
I'm rooting for you and thanks for the extra images.
I'm not sure Jon but the missing metal on the interior of the rim could be grease or something else clogging the incuse part of the die that forms the rim, keeping the metal from fully entering this area.
As to the possible clip, there appears to be raised metal on the obverse on your very first image which might be a displaced metal from a hit. It should be flat if it was there before the strike.
Seems odd that two anomalies might occur at the same place but stranger coincidences happen with coins.
Interesting coin... It doesn't look out of round to me tho??? Did you check it against another penny??? I would also think a clip would be from obv to rev across the entire edge and not just on part of the edge at an angle (chamfered)??? Maybe a PM to Mike Diamond would be in order???

(A.K.A. Elmer Fudd) Be verwy verwy quiet... I'm hunting coins!!! Good Hunting!!!
