    Mystery 1954 d DDO.

    Additional Information
    Date: 1954
    Variety: DDO
    Mint: Denver

I lost out on this today on Ebay. 1954 d DDO LINK .

Thickness on the 4 with even a notch on the bottom right corner of the horizontal cross bar.
Any opinions on which variety it may be, of the ones listed below or others? And I think it has separation (or lighting?) on the bottom of BE and the right leg of the R looks notched on LIBERTY.

The following varieties have doubling on the 4 but the MM doesn't seem to line up with any of them.
And none of the markers match the one in the auction.
    Not CC 1DO-003 .

    Not VV DDO-003 .

    Not DD WDDO-003 .

All three of these varieties above are different (just coincidental they have the same #).

I thought I would nail down the variety once I received it because no one would be crazy enough to out bid me. Evidently someone else saw this as a variety and wanted it more than I. My only hope for sanity is if someone here won it because this will drive me nuts wondering about it.
(Wait a minute, it's already to late for my sanity! )

Thanks for all comments because it will help me heal.

    Doh!

No opinions on the DDO but, looks like you battled it out with one other bidder to try to get it.

    {Someone on the forum???}

edit: I am thinking it is not a DDO. To me looks like a photographic 'trick' [though unintentional]. Seems a bit pricey at $25.

Do you think it may all be lighting? I do see what you are seeing and obviously someone else did too for it to go for $21. I know the 4's look chunky to begin with on the 40's and 50's. Just trying to make you feel better!

You guys are the best! I feel better already!!!!

Of course it wasn't a variety and the other winning bidder lost a wad of cash.

I did wonder if it really was a DDO but the width of bottom of the 4 and the cross bar didn't appear to be
    lighting though.

    Excellent!

I am going to have to live vicariously through you. The USPS said it delivered my unattributed 1910S RPM-002 [that I won] but, it is still not in my possession 24 hours later.

Oh no, you've got that backwards. You win your varieties!!

Hope you are able to post images Monday or Tues. at the latest. Was it attributed and slabbed?

You have more faith in the Post Office than I do.

    Slabbed but not attributed.

I am hoping EDS since I saw no markers [but may never know now].

I do not believe this is likely to be a doubled die. It seems to me to be just effects from lighting, as well as possibly a small hit on the 4.

Yea. I'm glad someone else will get that revelation with the coin in hand and not I!!
    Thanks for additional confirmation Dan.

Edit: And thanks for the follow up T. USPS does come through sometimes.
