1984P thought it might be 1984P-1DO-008

    Additional Information
    Date: 1984P
    Variety: DDO
    Mint: Philadelphia
    Coppercoins: 1984P-1DO-008

After Sheila posted her 1984P... I remembered I had put one aside and it seems to look a lot like hers. I mentioned this to her in another thread so I decided to post this.

I see a lot of similarities between our coins and Coppercoins 008 (the LI of Liberty and the Motto until you get to the RU of TRUST)... but what I see that does not look the same as the Coppercoins example is:

    1. The 4 of the date does not appear to have thickness at the vertical (even though mine has been flattened from circulation)
    2. The RU of Trust on our coins look the same but does not match CC 008, especially the shape inside of the R and the tops of the U.

Is it possible for die wear/die abrasion to make the vertical of the 4 look thinner and also make the shape inside of the R (our circle is bigger) and the tops of the U (ours look thinner) look different?

Thank you for looking and giving feedback!

Here is the OBV/REV and what I found at the chin... a few gouges, but they don't match Coppercoins example.

Sheila... I think we have the exact same Lincoln! I have compared ours and I see abrasion marks at WE that look the same and a bunch of die scratches on the reverse and the die clash that look to match also!

Viv, I see lite thickness on the vert of the 4. I just use a sheet of paper on the monitor and line it up on both sides of the image.
Also I see what looks like a die dot/gouge in front of Abe's chin on CC and yours, unless that is an inconveniently placed blister.

Thank you Cliff for looking and helping us out! Sorry I took so many pics to look at. My coin is actually very pretty with toning and it's very shiny so pics were tough! Since Sheila and I both have a later die state than Coppercoins EDS example... and we have the die clash with lots of die abrasion scratches, the reverse markers on ours are probably gone. Sheila's obverse has plating disturbance, so it would be next to impossible for her to find die gouges in front of the beard.

I also see some gouges/die dots in front of the beard on my coin, but they are not exactly the same. Maybe because of the later die state. I'm not 100% sure we both have the CC 008 DD but I am 99.9% sure that Sheila and I have the same reverse die and therefore probably the same obverse as well.

Here are a few pics I marked with arrows for Sheila to compare to hers. Also, I think I may have a common marker to Coppercoins 008 that is not mentioned in the attribution notes (gouge in front of lips)

I'm sorry Jim! I know it's tougher when you don't have the two coins in front of you to study! It was hard for me just having one of them and trying to compare to pics. I sent a message to Sheila on her 1984 DDO thread so she can look and tell us what she finds! It will be interesting to know and that will help out a lot!

Looks promising without serious study, I hat some of the slight DDO's from the Zincolns. They throw me off often.

No need to be sorry... My brain got fried... It has been very stressful around here the past month and the old brain has been getting fried real easy... This coin looks very similar to Sheilas... Could very well be they are the same die... You and Sheila will need to match up markers... I can not zoom in close enough on Sheilas pics to tell for certain but those rev markers look really promising!!!
