    1961 D RPM-020 My first hook!!

    Additional Information
    Date: 1961
    Variety: RPM
    Mint: Denver
    Coneca: 1961-D RPM-020
    Wexler: 1961-D 1c WRPM-020
    Coppercoins: 1961D-1MM-020

Sorry for it's condition but I have actually been soaking this coin on and off for months to get it to this point. I knew I had something here, so I couldn't just toss it. It's a well circulated crusty coin but my first hook RPM none the less! Looks to be somewhere between MDS and LDS and has a nice woody look too.

    VV (http://www.varietyvista.com/02b%20LC...961DRPM020.htm)

    Thanks for looking, Jon.

    It's all good.

Hmmm, I think yours might be a tad south of RPM-20.

    ...will take another look.

edit: I think you got it -- I'm blaming those pesky dark shadows on VV. I think you have the shoulder crack too but not easy to see.

Congrats Jon! Your very first East hook variety! I think it's awesome! You have done an excellent job removing the layers of gunk to finally get the hook to come out of hiding! I'm very impressed... I think I have finally met someone who is more determined than I am! A+++++++++++++++ +++++++ +++++++ + my friend!!!

Attribution looks spot on to me too T! I always go to Coppercoins first so I can see Bob's awesome photos!

    Very Nice Hook, Cap'n.
(I'm glad Peter Pan didn't help you with your first.)

Nice find Jon... Attribution looks spot on... I think yours is at least a VV Stage C http://www.varietyvista.com/02b%20LC...961DRPM020.htm The chip off the west base does not show until Stage C... Did you notice hoe the hook of the secondary MM progresses on this RPM??? It is barely visible in Stage A, Is stronger in Stage B then begins to weaken in Stage C... In Stage F it looks like a chip... If the die lasted any longer than Stage F the bar and hook may have been completely gone!!!
    Jim
(A.K.A. Elmer Fudd) Be verwy verwy quiet... I'm hunting coins!!! Good Hunting!!!

Thanks Jim!! Yes sir, I was actually just thinking about this find that shows how the RPM weakens as it goes to a later die stage, proving what Viv and you both said.
