    Answered: 1914D Authentic?

Found this one in the wheat batch I have been searching. The date looks OK to me but I'm not sure about the MM. Thanks for looking and helping.

Sorry, I should have put this in Collector Q&A.

Holy cow Larry!! What a find!! I just keep waiting for what you're going to put up next out of this batch! This is the exact coin that got me into coins in general. I saw an MS 1914D go for $25,000 on eBay several years ago and was hooked!

What makes you think it may not be authentic?

I've been surfing around, looking at different examples and yours looks good to me!! I'm curious to see what the powers that be say!

Wow Larry J! Very nice looking 1914D! I think the mint mark looks right for the MMS-001, here is the link http://varietyvista.com/01b%20LC%20D...k%20Styles.htm

Thanks for that link Vivien!! I also had concerns about the abrasions where a VDB may have been. Could it have been removed?

    Super super congratulations Larry.
All I really know is that there were so few minted that year all of the known die pairs are documented and there will be people that will be able to help out and authenticate yours.
    Congrats again.

I don't think there was a VDB there, but our wheat and counterfeit pros are more knowledgeable at this than I am. Here are a couple more good links:

Looks good to me also... Comparing yours with the one Vivien linked us to https://www.ngccoin.com/coin-explore...s-coinid-12471 The gap between the 9 and 1 are spot on... Even the shape of the 4 looks correct... That coupled with the fact that Bob and Edcyclopedia of Coins (ECOC) think it's legit you are LKOR!!!

Larry, here are the known mint mark positions for 1914D. Yours might be die 5? What do you think?
