    Answered: 1988 "Destructive Die Crack"

This die crack is pretty neat to follow. It's like an earthquake destroying everything in it's path and it has the colon coming up, all in a panic lol It starts at the rim then forks one way to the F, the other way to the O of OF Is the die crack what caused the left side of the o to appear enlarged? then it moves on and forks again, this time to the left side of the U and the main plows right thru the middle of the U in PLURIBUS. Is it the crack that also makes the left side of the U appear enlarged...
then it's overlapped at the bottom of the U and moves on until the end

  2. "Yes, the die crack is causing a slight shift in the lettering. Looks like a little chipping is happening as well."

Did you have a question about this one Derrel? Very nice crack with excellent displacement at the "O" though, that's pretty extreme!! There is nothing there big enough to be an IDB and I thing there are normaly two cracks to create an RIDB, so I'm not sure even how to categorize this. You might want to send pics to JC though and get his take on it, very cool!

I was just curious if the crack caused those letters to appear doubled was all... Will answered it, thank you for asking

That is cool... The U looks like a chip that has been worn down... I think with the displacement at the O yours should qualify as an Unusual Die Crack (UDC)... COC has some nice ones listed... Maybe send an email to JC and have him come take a look???

Don't normally see displacement like that unless the die is broken... Maybe the crack runs along the east side of the O but is difficult to see???
