    Answered: 1917D Doubled 19???

    I know this coin is very worn and very hard to photograph lol but can anyone tell if the 19 in the date is much larger than the 17? Sorry I couldn't get better pics

    A wild guess, the rim protected the 17 more than the 19 and LIB more than BERTY. The first million hits make the less protected parts wider then the soft wear takes both areas down so in the end it has fatter stuff in further from the rim but in the end it's all pretty faint. Just a guess but I think I've also seen some were the LIB is almost gone but the rest is there so it's tough to really explain why wear patterns are the way they are.

    Same reason a lot of 17-Ps start looking fat like the DDO from wear."
