Very nice old spike and lam Larry J.! I'm with you, it does look like a lam. Is that portion of the lam that is curled up folded over? If it is, and it was flattened back out, it looks like it would match the incuse area. But, the more I look at it, I'm kinda torn between lam and hit Let's see what the guys think!
This one is still bugging me... typically you see a spike to a IDB or RIDB or just a little die chip. The odds to see an isolated lam (or a hit that looks like that if that's what it is), those odds have got to be slim. Very intriguing!
Very cool find Larry!! I'm seeing a lam folded back and looks to be all there but would like to here JC's take on whether it's a spike head or not. Like Viv said, they are usually tied to a chip/IDB or RIDB. The description of a spike head is a "die crack" and don't know if a lam would fall under the same specs.

Jon I think you are right, if it's all lam then it would not be a spike. I can see where it could be hard to tell whether it's all lam, or a smoothed over die crack, on a nice old wheat like this! A tough one to figure out!
Larry J. what are your thoughts? Can you get a close up of the die crack from the rim?

Vivien, that is my close up but i will see if I can do better. Thanks!!
Upon further observation I have found that what I have is a lamination error. Sorry for the confusion I have caused!!
It's okay Larry J., you made us all think about it! Thank you for the follow up observation and photos! Looks like all lam to me too - nice job on the pics!
