    1973 S strange marks obverse

    I'm sure this is damage possibly by another reeded coin, anyone seen one like this or have an idea?......................dinkyblue

    Haven't seen one quite like that before, but you are right in that it is most likely just damage. I wouldn't think it was caused by a reeded coin, but at this point, we are all just guessing.

    That specific area would likely be protected from dents by the rim and motto. They look raised in the pic. Are they?

    Thank you Bob, and Will for having a look. The marks in photo number 003 close to the letters US in TRUST appear to be dented into the coin, but close to the rim the marks look raised almost like they are coming from within the rim, my thought was whatever hit the coin pushed the metal up due to impact. That's about all I can think of that happened, very strange................Dan

    Cool looking... I do not think it would be damage to the coin... Like Will said that is a mostly protected area... To me it looks like die damage... Next to each mark (pic 2) there appears to be an in cuse area then a very small area in relief??? That is consistent with a pressure ridge from what ever damaged the die... Hope that helps a bit!!!

    My thoughts as well Jim. Small pressure ridge next to the die dent from each hit on the die causing an incuse "line" on the coin.
