I didn't expect this MS65RB
Found a 1911-D in nice condition. There was so much die deterioration and abrasion, (to erase clash marks?), that I didn't expect it to grade this high. It came back MS65RB, so I'm quite happy.

Nice find ! Further proof that the die condition doesn't affect grade though I do wonder if it would carry through on an MS70

Looks to be at least 65BN to me. Die state is not supposed to affect the grade; however, I still doubt that when you get to MS67-70 levels.

I've seen some ultra gem coins whose grade seemed to held-up due to issues with the strike.

Lot of spotting on that coin. Must have been NGC.

I had expected it to be graded as Brown, but got a Red/Brown instead. If I ever sell it, I'll only be able to realize Brown price.

I'd consider paying the cost for PCGS to grade that for crossover, just for the entertainment value.
