    Clean a 1966 die clash?

I found a pair of die clash’s in an OBW federal reserve roll. They are a bit hazy but otherwise have close to full luster. There are some carbon spots on one, as well as some kind of gunk … I’m betting that since it is an OBW that it is some kind of grease from the mint.

It has been suggested that I dip them in acetone. I hesitate to do it, but I have other coins from the roll I can test it on first. I am new to all of this and have never used acetone. How long would I dip them and are there any special suggestions on what to do or what not to do?

    Thanks.

Acetone wont hurt you coin at all. Just soak it in a glass jar overnight. Don't rub it, of course.

    Yep.
A soak in the "tone" may do it wonders.

After soaking, rinse with distilled water to prevent spotting and allow to air dry.
