    Damaged/Detailed 1909-S-VDB Lincoln Cent

    This 1909-S-VDB is obviously a damaged/detailed coin.

"If" the coin is a genuine 1909-S-VDB, (and I'm not sure if it is. maybe you can tell) would the TPG'ers still holder it and label it as genuine and damaged?

I have seen them slabbed as damaged/corroded by PCGS so I would assume yes....maybe do a search on Google for an example

Your coin is not genuine anyway, but even if it were, it would get a "details" grade.

Thanks for the reference pictures Maineman750

Will- What exactly do you see that tells you it's not genuine?

Thanks Roger and I agree with Will.

The MM is almost directly under the 0, but the top of the MM is about even with the bottoms of the 9's.
The MM placement doesn't match any of the 4 known positions in the link Roger provided.

Interesting fake, the VDB looks OK but the obverse portrait is far too weak for a 1909 (fresh hubs/dies) and the MM isn't right. I can't put my finger on it but the reverse looks off too. The obverse looks like the chinese fakes I've seen.

So if it's a fake or counterfeit, is there a TPG'er that would slab it as such?

I believe it would come back in a "body bag". (A small plastic ziplock with no slab.)

You can ask them by email before sending it in and give your reasons for wanting it slabbed as counterfeit. But I still don't think they will.

I think you're right. I have to do some research. I don't recall seeing any TPG'er slab labels that say counterfeit, fake or not genuine.

Yes, I'll e-mail them and ask. Thanks.
