    1986 Lincoln Cent - PL?

I say YES, very PL. What do you think? Which TPG's will add the PL designation to the slab? Grade guesses?

Holy guacamole, that one does have a proof like appearance.
I don't know the answer to those questions, but congrats on the find.

Are you sure it isn't replated? Looks like it.

I'm in with re-plated. Can you give us a pic of the edge in a few spots?

    100% original, came from a mint set - not re-plated. I have four (I think) 1986 PL's now.

If I make some changes in my lighting and add angle to eliminate mirrors, it's easier to tell it's an original mint finish - this is a different coin but the posted coins twin.

Yeah that looks better. Pics can be deceiving. Good luck with it if you send it in.

Thanks for those added images and info about mint packaging.

AS far as slabbing service to add the designation, it seems like ANACS would be the only one to go outside FS #'s.
(I couldn't find any "PL" designations at PCGS)

It sure is a nice looking cent and seems like it would easily go ms 67/68 and because of the PL qualities might hit 69 but it looks like a slight "blemish" under the right planter.

Sure can! The pics that show the mirrors in the OP are what the coin looks like in hand.

I've had this crazy theory that the mint had extra proof planchets some years and just tossed them into a production hopper. Seems to me that's 100% the easiest and most efficient way to dispose of them if they have extras - or, perhaps, if someone at the mint is playing shenanigans and tossing them in.
