    1941-S [so-called] misplaced mintmark

    Additional Information
    Date: 1941
    Variety: Other
    Mint: San Francisco

I picked up this coin at a recent show because there was something different about the mintmark. Not sure if it was something like the 1928 large S, a minor RPM or something else.

I just found this listed by Wiles as a misplaced mintmark.Guessing it has no real significance/collectability: Just different.

The mintmark is not misplaced, but tilted a bit. I never understood why Dr. Wiles listed this one like this. There are many tilted mintmarks on Lincoln cents out there. You are correct in that these hold little or no extra value.

Agreed. Not all that uncommon, but they make good conversation pieces. This is also that jacked-up punch I wrote about. MMS4/MMS9. That alone often tricks people too.
