    I've been out of the loop for some time, so I may be totally wrong here. But although it looks quite dramatic in your photos, the "doubling" seems to be cutting into the design elements. Likely dramatic machine doubling. If not, that would be a major doubled die and unnoticed for almost 50 years. It happens, but not usually

    This is not a 1975 nickel, but a 1983.

    This is a great example of die deterioration. Some nickels (like yours) show the effect dramatically. I have actually kept a few like this over the years..

    This sure is an extreme example Sheila. You're images are really great for showing the extent of the die deteerioration.

    That first T of STATES looks like a palm tree!
