Answered: 1998 P Grease Filled Die??
The 98 in the date is very weak, it can hardly be seen. The "IB" in LIBERTY is also very weak, not as much though. Interestingly they are about symmetrical to the center of the coin. I don't think it's PSD; but a grease filled die on those devices. Is that right???
Thanks,
Adrian

"Cool looking coin Adrian!! I would say that you are correct on the grease filled die. I've noticed people pointing out that when you have issues in the same general area on the perimeter, that it may have been from a coin machine like a gumball machine that would wear in the same area."

I have noticed that also Jon. In this case, I can't see other scratches, ached lines, exposed zinc, shavings, etc, all of which are consistent with machine damage...That prevents me from thinking it was caused by a machine; but I can't tell for sure.
Thanks Jon.

Ok, well thanks to both Jon and Viv!!!
Is this a coin I should keep, a collectible coin?? Do people collect them?. I think there should be others like this as many should have been struck with the same greased die, right?
Thanks,
Adrian

Some collect them and yes there were probably more than one while it was clogged plus other dies probably clogged in similar ways.
Everyone has a threshold of what they'll keep, most probably would keep it even though the real value isn't big.

Looks like corrosion and damage from some kind of liquid.

Yes, I think that's what it is, a stain starting to become corrosion from some kind of liquid above of ONE CENT...
Thanks to all.
