I'd say 5, 6, abraded 6 or maybe 5.

You are probably right. The last one is 1989, so its probably an abraded 6. (Unless we want to start a new club for 1989 RDV 5). Is that even possible?

It looks much the same to me as the first one which is 1988. But I'm almost always wrong.:tinysmile_cry_t3: Oh well. I wanted to see if it was obvious to you guys with the sharper eyes.

someone can tell by the fonts from the RDV-005 to the RDV-006 instead of putting all the emphasis on the "FG" - if one is not sure

you can read my comment back in November on this

You mean the fonts of AM specifically? I cant tell the diff.

Here's another one I just this minute found. It sure looks like RDV 5 to me. It even looks like the pics at your link you pointed to.

I shot a pic of the AM also.

DWK,
if you go to the variety vista site you will see that it was delisted and debunked. it is an ABREADED DIE and also you could see that it is the 1989 FG because it has a bigger curve in the "G".....I have 15 of these and sent one off to James Wiles and he told me it was ABREADED.

Thanks Penny. I'll have to take your word for it. I just cant see the diffs.

I can spot a normal RDV 6 well enuf, but apparently the abraded ones are just too similar to the RDV 5 for me to spot. Also the slight font diff in the other letters such as AM are just too subtle for me.

I'll just keep looking at all pennies and hope for the best

I went to the Variety Vista page and found the following:

"A 1989 cent with RDV-005 has now been reported. It is currently not known how rare this transitional design may be."

I also see 1989P on the list of dates for RDV 5. I don't see anything about it being debunked. Where did you see it debunked?

It was my discovery. I have it framed with the attribution letter from James Wiles dated September 28th, 2007. It was debunked two months later as an abraded die. I don't care. I want to keep it. That coin made me sooo happy for two months.

Just because that one was debunked, does not mean that another one could not exist.

Try to look at the top curl of the "G" on FG- even if it's an abraded RDV-006, (i.e. missing the "flaring" on the letter G) the top curl and shape of the G should help identifying. For the RDV-006, the G is rounder and the top curl doesn't go over the right edge of the G, whereas in the RDV-005, the G is more elongated up and down ("compressed") and the top curl of the G does extend as far right as the right side.

I think I found a surefire way to tell the diff. And you're right. Mine is just like yours.

At high magnification, the RDV6 is as wide as it is high. The RDV5 is taller than it is wide. You just need a ruler. Its still hard to tell without measuring.

Thanks again, I'm keeping mine too. The price was right. It cost exactly what its worth.

It would need to be an early die state BU coin to be sure(from what I've been told).

I also have been told it needs to be MS 64 in EDS condition to be sure it's a winner.
