View Full Version : Working On Type Sets

Thought I would share with you on a type set that I'm working on. Most collectors and enthusiast are familiar with the 1998, 1999 and 2000 1c Wide AM (Type 2 Reverse "Proof" Hub) varieties. But what I would like to assemble is the broadstruck types for those varieties. I have the 2000 Wide AM broadstruck. I know a collector who has the 1999 Wide AM broadstruck but for the moment I'm a little short of funds obtaining that specimen. I haven't seen or heard of a 1998 Wide AM broadstruck and if any of you do would appreciate letting me know. It's just something different that I thought would be challenging but still obtainable with persistent effort.

Another set that I would like to assemble is the 1988 RDV-006 varieties from both the P and D-Mints, with the 1992-D Close AM and round out with the 1998, 1999 and 2000 Wide AM. Those six coins in an NGC or PCGS multi-holder encapsulation I think would make a most interesting and very educational display. Again, it would take a lot of effort, but could be done.

What kind of type sets do you work on?

Sound like a big order.

On the contrary, I would have to respectfully disagree with you. I already have a 1988 RDV-006 (found 3 of them already), I already have the 1998, 1999 and 2000 Wide AM. So, out of 6 coins needed for the type set I already have 4 of them. All I need is the 1988 D-mint RDV-006 and the 1992-D Close AM. That set would be done. You yourself have found 3 of the 92-D Close AM. I know there has to be more D-Mint RDV-006 out there and I feel confident will be found by collectors. So, in reality, I see this type set being completed in the not to distant future.

I was talking about the set of broadstruck coins. If there is a 92d close am broadstruck out there I would imagine it would be priceless.

Not sure if it qualifies as a type set, but it has been my goal since I started (2006) to complete a set of Lincoln cents (date and mint mark) entirely from circulation.

I'm trying to get a DDO of each class.
Here is what I have:
1955 DDO 1 Class I
1971 DDO 1 Class II
1960 D DDO 1 Class III
1983 DDR 1 Class IV
1995 DDO 1 Class V
1943 DDO 1 Class VI
1963 D DDO 1 Class VIII

I need class VII

It think this is a good type set.

Me too. I'm only missing 1909S VDB, 1914D, 1922 Plain. There are also holes in my book for 1955 DDO, 1972 DDO.

I doubt if I'll ever find any of the keys in circ, but I might be able to trade some of the varieties I have found, like the 1999 Wide AM, or the 1994 doubled cols (FS#1c-039.9), of which I have two.

Wow! You've given me hope that I may actually come close- I'm currently missing 33, mostly teens and twenties of course.

A lot of the harder ones I got years ago when I was a kid. They are obviously a lot harder to find now.

Make a list. I have dups for most Phillys and some D/S.

Not to take the fun out of the search, but I can think of a trade for most of what you need. Unfortunately, I only have one of the really good ones, Ie. 1909S, 1922D, 1924D, 1931S 1960 small date for ex.

Thanks for the offer! I should have mentioned that I actually have two sets going, one from circulation and one that I allow myself to buy coins for. For the latter, I'm only missing four (09-S, 09-S VDB, 11-S, 14-D) since I recently picked up a 31-S at the local dealer.

The way I look at it, if I find something in circ, like a 1999 Wide AM (Which I did find), (Or even a 1988 RDV6 like you found 6 of), I'm willing to trade for something I'll never find in circ. like a 1914D.

To me thats just like finding one in circ.

Meanwhile 1911S is another one I only have one of. PM me if you think of any trade you might want to.
