Hello All,
I want to throw this out to all of you to see what you think would be the market price for an ungraded 1988P-RDV-006 compared to the 1992D close "AM". Here is my thought's on this subject, I would think that the 1988P-RDV-006 should be in the ball park of the 1992D close "AM". They are also EXCEDEINGLY RARE just like the 1988P-RDV-006 are. So would you all think it should have the same RESPECT as it's sister the 1992D?. One was just found in a roll on june 7th in Michagan and it is in AU condition and was valued in excess of $1,000.00.....please let me here your thought's on this matter ok.

Thank you,

Patrick:tinysmile_hmm_t:

Although they are indeed kindred, early indications are that the 1988P RDV-006 was produced with 4 different dies and is thus more similar to the 1999 wide AM in terms of rarity. Now 1988D RDV-006 on the other hand...

Yes very true for the 1988D-006....So far just (1) has been found. Thank you for your reply.

Remember that the value of a coin is not a function of its rarity, but a function of the demand. These are not as in demand as the 1992 D close AM's. We can say that they "should" be as valuable, but the demand is just not there. Will it be one day? Who knows.

I would say it's both rarity and demand- or more precisely demand relative to rarity.

Here's my collection of 1988-P RDV-006 Lincoln cents after coming back from ICG for grading. The first one appears to have some rub on it, but it came back in Mint State. The other two look to be graded accurately. Many thanks go out to AgCollector for finding them in the first place!

Looks great! Reminds me that I really have to learn how to grade modern cents. One question though- it's hard to see exactly from the image, but the center one looks like it says "RDV-005" on the holder- is that my eyes playing tricks or did they mis-label it?

I have to learn how to take better images. The center one is indeed labelled RDV-006.

He bought them all from me on eBay. Looks like the grades are as you mentioned, 62RB, 62RB and 64RD. I suppose this means car10 can't call his the finest known anymore- now it's tied!

Thanks David! However, my MS64RD has a smudge on the obverse that reduces its overall eye appeal. "Buy the coin and not the slab" would favor your specimen over mine, but I'm not complaining.

I was confounded when mine came back in a 64 slab. I thought it would easily grade 65. That was a different set of graders though. I guess that is the definition of subjectivity. I had sent it in before ICG changed hands. Those graders are all at ANACS now.

All I meant in my post was to thank AgCollector through the forum for his effort in finding three RDV-006 cents that I later acquired through eBay. He did all the hard work, and all I did was to win the auctions and to have the coins graded.

My bad. I'm glad you got some, esp. 3. I still haven't found another one!

Is anyone interested in trading one of their 1988 RDV-006 for my 1988 RDV-006 plus another variety cent or cash? My 1988 RDV-006 has a small ding on the rim next to the initials. I'm just looking to upgrade.
