i found a 43p today, great strike but the 4 is barely visible. the 19 3 are strong. is this anything. any ideas on what might of caused this. sorry no pic, im working on that.

PRobably some grease got on to that part of die, causing it to be like that. I have one similiar, I think they are common for the steel cents, but I may be wrong.

Probably a grease filled die. Here are 2 43 S that I found. Not the best pics though. The 1st has a weak 43 & S, the 2nd has a weak 4 & S.

thanks for the responses everybody. like i said im new to this variety thing. learning as i go. i learned alot from this site set up by Brad. not sure if its the same brad on here, but it gives great examples of most all varieties.

I'm the same.
The missing 4 is quite common on steel cents. I read somewhere that experts believe that the cause may be due to a master die issue...not just filled dies.
