1928-D Doubling

Every time I look at this coin it looks different to me. At first I thought it was 'machine' doubling but later convinced myself that it was something much better ... now I'm back to thinking it's machined.

What do you think?

You were correct in thinking it is MD. The anomaly affects both the date and mintmark at the same time. This is a great clue that it is MD.
