Found this one in a roll with RPM's 4,8,and 10. Some pretty neat die gouges goin on in the date and mintmark. Wonder what could have caused it, maybe the mintmark punch slipped?

That is a neat looking die gouge on the 0. Not sure about the theory of the MM punch slipping. This coin shows a lot of heavy die scratches in that area too. There's just something about the US Mint not taking very good care of the dies back in the 50's.

Very nice find. Ditto on care of the dies. I think all they had was a harsh file to clean them. LOL

I would say a Dunce Cap on the MM and a feather on the "0"... LOL... Nice find!!!

A lot of dies in the '50s to '60s were abraded heavily after a clash and in the process the dies were often gouged. Most often, whatever made a die dent or gouge remains a mystery and can not be tied into any specific tool. Nice pics BTW

Very nice pics and a very interesting find.
I would have asked the same question and looked for a clash or RPM on it, or even an OMM.
Thank you for sharing this with us!
